Great place with many different Chinese plates. If you are looking for variety they have plenty of options! And also included is a whole separate vegan menu which is delicious! We like the General tsao's chicken and the vegan chow mein. Good service, it's right in the heart of downtown and has been around in the community for years! I've been here 3 times so far and never disappoints. Ambiance can be improved as it's still a little old school. I wouldn't say it's high end top of the line Chinese food, but overall it's really solid and would definitely recommend to a friend.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in downtown San Mateo ,we had ordered seafood pan fried noodles!!! Excellent takeout order , the noodles were boxed separately from the exquisite seafood gravy . And as noted by my nephew said not too many Chinese restaurants take the time and care to pack separately ...a true signature of higher level Chinese cuisine. The seafood gravy is extraordinary ,all the seafood was cooked to perfection ( Al dente...if applicable to food outside of pasta)all ingredients were top notch fresh!! I'm handicapped and rely on my wife to drive here from foster city to satiate my cravings for great Chinese and Little China always consistently delivers

While waiting to pick up our sashime order from a near by market, Yelp guided us here for a quick lunch. The place is not large nor fancy, two rows of tables in a relatively long and narrow dining area, we can see the kitchen in the back. All three people covering front and back arel wearing masks. We ordered hot and sour soup, two lunch specials i.e. sweet and sour pork and Mu-shu chicken. The 3-4 other tables occupied were all by non-Asian customers. While waiting for our food we can hear the sound of pork frying in the kitchen which was encouraging. We didn't wait long. The hot and sour soup came piping hot with a lot of fresh ingredients; the taste of black vinegar was quite strong which kind of reached my limit and I can handled vinegar. Hubby enjoyed his guilty pleasure S/S, the pork was indeed freshly fried and generously portioned. The sauce was however a little too sweet for our taste. The mu-shu was very nice, we both thought it was the best tasting of the three. Overall we'd consider Little China Kitchen a good find, especially the freshness of the ingredients, great value and services. Will come back to try other dishes next time we visit the area.

Little China kitchen is a hidden gem in downtown San Mateo! From the outside they don't seem like much, but their food is absolutely delicious, and they are very kid friendly! The location itself is a bit run down, but it is still very clean. We often stop here for family dinners and are always so happy with the speed of the service. The waiters and cooks always smile at my daughter and were not bothered at all when she accidentally spit her water on our last trip here. My go to's are the general tao's chicken, broccoli and beef and chicken chow main. The spicy representations are very accurate, and food seems to be a bit spicier here than expected.
